Why was I charged? Understanding Auto-renewal on Predis

Why was I charged? Understanding auto-renewal on Predis

If you see an unexpected charge from Predis on your bank or credit card statement, this article explains what happened, how to check your subscription status, and what your options are — including how to get a refund if you're eligible.

The short answer

All Predis subscriptions — including plans that start with a free trial — renew automatically at the end of each billing cycle. This means:

  • When your free trial ends, it converts to a paid subscription unless you cancel before the trial period expires.
  • When your monthly or annual billing period ends, the same plan renews at the same price and charges the payment method on file.

This is stated during checkout when you first subscribe, but we know it's easy to miss — especially if you signed up quickly to try the product out. If you were charged and didn't expect it, you're not alone, and we're here to sort it out.

"I forgot to cancel my free trial"

This is the most common reason for an unexpected charge. Here's exactly what happens:

  1. You sign up for a Predis free trial and enter a payment method.
  2. The trial runs for its full duration (typically 7 days).
  3. At the end of the trial, unless you've cancelled, your account converts to the paid plan you selected during signup.
  4. Your payment method is charged for the first billing cycle.

If this happened to you and you didn't intend to continue: see the How to request a refund section below. We handle these on a case-by-case basis, and most trial-related refund requests are resolved quickly.

How to avoid this in the future

  • You can cancel your trial at any time before it expires — you'll keep access for the remainder of the trial period, and you won't be charged.
  • Check your trial end date: go to Pricing & Account Settings → Teams, Brands, & Usage -> Current Plan & Usage. Your trial expiration date and the amount of the upcoming charge are both displayed there.
  • We send a reminder email 48 hours before your trial converts to a paid plan. Check your inbox (and spam folder) for an email from Predis with the subject line referencing your upcoming charge.

"My subscription renewed and I didn't expect it"

If you're on a paid plan (not a trial) and were charged again, your subscription simply renewed for the next billing cycle. This is how it works:

  • Monthly plans renew on the same calendar date each month. If you subscribed on March 10, your next charge is April 10.
  • Annual plans renew on the same date the following year.
  • The charge is processed using the payment method you originally provided. If that card has expired or been replaced, the charge may fail — in which case your account moves to a grace period before features are restricted.

Where to check your billing details

Go to Pricing & Account Settings → Teams, Brands, & Usage -> Current Plan & Usage -> Manage Subscription -> Billing History. You'll see:

  • Your current plan name and price
  • Your billing cycle (monthly or annual)
  • Your next renewal date
  • The payment method on file

If you want to continue using Predis but switch to a different plan, you can change your plan from Pricing & Account Settings → Billing Plan.

How to cancel your subscription

You can cancel at any time. After cancelling, your plan remains active until the end of the current billing period — you don't lose access immediately.

To cancel from the Predis dashboard:

  1. Go to Pricing & Account Settings → Billing Plan -> Scroll down to "Cancel Subscription" at the end of the page.
  2. Click Cancel subscription.
  3. Follow the confirmation steps.
  4. You'll receive an email confirming the cancellation and the date your access expires.

If you subscribed through a third party:

  • Apple App Store: Predis cannot cancel App Store subscriptions on your behalf. You need to cancel directly through Apple: go to iPhone Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → find Predis → Cancel. Or visit Apple's subscription management page.
  • Google Play Store: Open Google Play → tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → find Predis → Cancel.
  • Shopify: Unsubscribe from Shopify directly. For refunds, get in touch with our support.
  • Stripe / direct billing: Cancel from the Predis dashboard as described above.

When to cancel to avoid the next charge

Cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date. Renewal processing begins up to 24 hours in advance, so a last-minute cancellation may not stop the upcoming charge.

If you missed the window and were charged, contact support — we'll review your case.

"I was on a discounted plan. Why is the price different now?"

If you originally subscribed during a promotion, sale, or special offer, your first billing period may have been at a reduced rate. When that period ends:

  • The plan renews at the regular listed price, not the promotional price.
  • The regular price is shown in your Pricing & Account Settings → Billing Plan.

If you were expecting the discounted rate to continue and it didn't, you have two options:

  1. Keep the plan at the regular price.
  2. Downgrade or cancel before the next renewal if the regular price doesn't work for your budget.

We don't retroactively apply expired promotions, but if you believe there was a pricing error, contact support and we'll look into it.

How to request a refund

If you were charged unexpectedly — particularly after a free trial you forgot to cancel — here's how to request a refund: (Other than Apple App Store and Google Play users)

  1. Email us at hello@predis.ai with the subject line "Refund request" or Chat with us directly.
  2. Include your account email (the one you use to log in) and the date of the charge.
  3. If possible, include a screenshot of the charge from your bank or payment provider.

What to expect

  • Trial auto-renewal charges: If you were charged after a trial ended and you haven't used the paid features, we typically process a full refund.
  • Monthly renewal charges: If you forgot to cancel and the renewal just processed, we'll review your usage during the billing period. Refunds are handled case-by-case.
  • Processing time: Refunds are usually issued within 3–5 business days. It may take an additional 5–10 business days for the refund to appear on your statement, depending on your bank.

We want you to use Predis because you find it valuable, not because you forgot to cancel. If you feel you were charged unfairly, reach out — we'll do our best to make it right.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose my content if I cancel?

Your generated content stays in your Content Library even after cancellation. However, you won't be able to generate new content, schedule posts, or access premium features once the current billing period ends.

Can I pause my subscription instead of cancelling?

We don't currently offer a pause option. If you need a break, cancel before the next renewal date and resubscribe when you're ready — your account and content will still be there.

I cancelled, but I was still charged. Why?

If you cancelled within 24 hours of your renewal date, the charge may have already been processed. Contact support with your cancellation confirmation email and we'll resolve it.

I don't recognize the charge on my statement. What does it look like?

Predis charges appear on your statement as PREDIS.AI or EZML Technologies depending on your bank. If you see a charge you don't recognize at all, check whether someone else in your household or team may have signed up.

Can I get a refund if I've already used the product this billing cycle?

We review these on a case-by-case basis. If you've actively used Predis during the period, a full refund may not be possible — but we may offer a partial credit or plan adjustment.
